Course Description:
The Post-Operative Rehabilitation course is designed to give clinicians a framework to approach patients with common post-operative presentations with safe and effective clinical reasoning. There will be emphasis on critically evaluating protocols and how to utilize them to respect tissue healing time, while delivering individualized progression of care. We will also emphasize skill development including manual and handling techniques in early post-operative care and appropriate progression of exercise and functional activities. Finally, we will discuss appropriate progression to dynamic activities and safe return to sport.
At completion of this 8 CEU course, the attendee will be familiar with the following topics:
- Understand structures involved in surgery
- Understand physiological healing time and implement safe interventions
- Read and execute a protocol while utilizing clinical reasoning for appropriate progression
- Recognize barriers and when to reduce load to tissues
- Utilize early rehab tools/modalities
- Utilize clinical reasoning for progression of activities
- Manual handling techniques for acute post-surgical patients
- Clinical reasoning for progression to return to dynamic activities and return to sport.
- Recognize and avoid common early mistakes
